How a heat pump works — for South Sound weather.
A heat pump doesn't make heat — it moves it. That's why the same system handles our damp marine winters and our increasingly hot summers.
December in the South Sound
Even damp, 35°F marine air holds heat worth moving.
A cold-climate-rated heat pump pulls warmth out of the outside air — yes, even on a gray Puget Sound winter day — and concentrates it with a compressor before releasing it inside. No flame, no combustion gases, just a quiet electric system built for our actual weather.
August heat waves
The same system reverses to cool your home.
Flip the cycle and the heat pump pulls warmth out of your house instead of the yard — the same equipment that heats in January delivers real air conditioning when Tacoma and Graham see their next heat wave. One system, one thermostat, both jobs.
Why every South Sound home should consider one
Cold-climate rated for our winters
We install NEEP-listed / ENERGY STAR Cold Climate heat pumps rated to keep delivering heat well below freezing — not the stripped-down units that struggle once the mercury drops.
Dual-fuel when it makes sense
For older homes or the rare deep cold snap off the Cascades, we can pair a heat pump with your existing gas furnace as backup — the system automatically switches to gas only when it's the more efficient choice.
One system, heating and cooling
Replace both an aging furnace and a window-unit habit with one system that heats in winter and cools in summer — less equipment to maintain, one thermostat to learn.
Your questions, answered straight
Do heat pumps actually work in Washington's damp winters?
Yes. Our marine climate rarely drops far below freezing, which is close to ideal territory for a cold-climate heat pump — it's engineered to keep pulling usable heat out of air that's colder than that.
What if we get a hard freeze or an outage-level cold snap?
That's exactly what dual-fuel backup and honest sizing are for. We size the system for your home and, when it fits, pair it with your existing furnace as backup heat for the rare extreme night — not guesswork.
Is a heat pump really cooling too, or just heating with a fan?
It's real air conditioning. The refrigerant cycle simply runs in reverse in summer — the same compressor and coils that deliver heat in January deliver cooling in August.

Which system fits your home style?

Thumbtack, Franchise, PE, vs Infinity

Others who've taken comfort in Infinity.
There were a couple of reschedules but it worked out fine regardless. The repair man was very straightforward and didn’t try to fix things that didn’t need to be fixed and he was very polite.
Prompt and professional team with amazing customer service. They’re very knowledgeable, easy to contact and they always have a positive attitude while being solution based. I was never pressured and felt the value was extremely competitive. I can’t say enough good things about the company as a whole. From the top down, they’re a class act and you’d be hard pressed to find someone better.
Great to work with. Work done as requested.
A/C failed on a hot day. Infinity heating & Air came out quickly to assess the problem. identified the faults and ordered the repair part. the entire process was fast and easy. excellent communication from team. i do recommend their services 100%
Matt G is amazing! I had a different company come out for a "cheap" cleaning and inspection, only for them to tell me I needed a whole new system or a major repair costing thousands of dollars. Skeptical, I reached out to several other HVAC companies for second opinions. Based just on photos, they all quoted me a repair cost 70% lower than the first company. But Infinity went the extra mile—they sent out Matt because they wanted to be absolutely SURE about the condition of the heat exchanger. Matt ran the exact same tests and got the same readings as the first company, but he actually knew how to interpret them: he explained that those numbers were completely within the normal operating range for my furnace. You could instantly tell Matt knew exactly what he was doing. He didn’t even need to run back and forth to the inside thermostat—he was able to jump the system and cycle the furnace right from the unit itself to run his diagnostics. I am blown away by Infinity's honesty and integrity. They aren't trying to scare people into unneeded equipment. The Infinity sticker is proudly on my furnace now, and they will be my absolute first call for any future HVAC needs! Thanks again Matt!
I had an incredible experience with Infinity. My technician Matt was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and helped resolve and repair my AC unit for much less than I was expecting. Money is very tight and so the thought of replacing my AC unit quite literally kept me up all night with worry. Matt came out and saved the day. Thank you so much Infinity and Matt!!
